Scolty

Brenda is busy ironing so I have been told to do the write-up….I was on for a double PM (personal misery) by watching Scolty as well as Glas Tulaichean the day before. Maisy refused to line up against the U12’s so instead climbed aboard the Daddy Express and we lumbered up the forest trail to the prominent stone tower on the summit and watched for the race coming up. Thankfully a lovely day for watching the front runners came plodding up but not looking all that sharp at the front end. There were certainly a few weary legs from Slioch and Glenshee the day before, but I was bristling with frustration at missing an obvious opportunity…again. It was Cosmic & Dundee Hawks runners leading the pack over the top for the first time and as the 40 odds runners passed Brenda plodded into view, clearly slow to warm up and complaining of a sore back. Go Mummy!!! In the interim before the 2nd pass over the hill me & Maisy nipped up the stone tower for brilliant views all over Deeside. Local superhero Robbie Simpson appeared up a track for a light jog to loosen his legs off, having won the GB team trials against some classy runners in Cumbria the day before. We chatted racing as the leaders came slugging up the different ascent path with a Dundee loon with a 10 second lead and the bit between the teeth, and 2 Cosmics vainly trying to chase him down. I’m quite sure Robbie would have won it even at his light jog pace… Brenda could take comfort from her 3 extra Summer League bonus points for being the only Westies in the race but was still glad of a giant Maisy hug at the top for the 2nd time! Maisy led me slowly down the hill with my knee confirming I am indeed crocked. It’s great wee race and the organiser happy with 40 runners on a hectic weekend with races, and Jubilee none sense going on all over the place, but it was disappointing to see just a handful of runners left at the prize giving, not even 1, 2 or 3 there to get their reward., but Brenda was delighted with her spot prize technical t-shirt, well earned too. Well done Davy Hirst and Deeside runners on a smashing wee race.
