Ella P and Gaby Mac’s Mamores Round
I was going to write this report 5 months ago. It was going to be wittier than James C’s, demonstrate more sacrifice than Don’s, and be more epic than Wiebkes’. Obviously, these were unrealistic goals, and now, with only 4 sleeps until the Westies’ Christmas Party and the traditional race-report of the year, I’m scrambling around to remember what happened, let alone be entertaining and interesting.
So here is a no frills report instead. Maybe I’ll get points for succinctness.
- When: a Thursday in mid-July
- What: a Mamores Round, going anti clockwise to have the wind in our backs, starting from the carpark at the end of the road up Glen Nevis
- Conditions: mild, mostly dry, clag 80% of the day, wind in our backs
- Top snacks: cold pizza and marmite potato scone “sandwiches”
- Low point: the ascent of Na Gruagaichan (Munro number 7) as the weather seemed to be getting worse and there was still 4 summits to go
- High points: the cloud lifting as Ella ran down ahead of me off Binnean Mor towards Coire an Loachain; and the final run down the glen from Steall Falls to the car park
- Stats: 39.81km, 3,304m ascent (some lines could definitely be improved), 11 hours and 16 mins.

What a great day out we had!
