Whangie Whizz

Results | Photos by Gordon Bulloch My first hill race for more than 6 months.  31 Westies running, a good few who have joined since I last ran for the club. I was slightly caught out by the race starting 2 minutes early, whilst I was standing around chatting at the back of the field. I didn’t

British & Irish Masters Cross Country

Results | Strava track Sheila, Gibson & I all represented Scotland at last weekend’s British & Irish Masters Cross Country at the grandiose venue of Wollaton Park in Nottingham. A nice course, with the odd deer roaming across. Gibson won silver with the M70 team, and I managed bronze as 2nd counter in the Scotland M50 team.

Run of the Mill 2014

Results The 5th running of Run of the Mill was another wet, windy, wild affair. Champion orienteer Graham Gristwood took the win in 1:10:59, leaving the rest of the field strung out getting battered by some of the strongest winds ever encountered on a hill. I took turns leapfrogging David Riach and Adrian Davis all the

Pentland Skyline

My first long hill race, or long hill run of any description since….  Pentland Skyline 2013! Anyhow, I thought I ought to keep my unbroken streak of 13 races going, so resolved to potter round slowly from the start. I briefly exchanged places with David and Alan a few times over the bumps before Allermuir,

Virgin London Marathon

Results 5 Westies completed yesterday’s Virgin London Marathon, of whom I think only 2 were virgin London Marathoners. Conditions turned out to be hot and tiring, and my plan of running as slowly as possible, resulted in drifting just over 3 hours. It was around 16 miles that Alan Gilkison came bouncing past, and Alan

Nigel Barge 10k

Results After yesterday’s 8-hour epic on the Mamores, I could bately walk, let alone run. But given that the Nigel Barge was the final Westies Winter League counter, I thought I should make the effort to hobble round. I didn’t see any other Westies at the start, although Sharon’s name was in the results. I

Deuchary Hill Race

Strava track Deuchary is a nice runnable hill race, with more trail than hill.   The results, when they appear won’t make much sense, since only a small proportion runners followed the advertised route. Unfortunately Adrian’s route marking had been sabotaged again. I was lucky that Adrian was running right behind me, so shouted myself,

Winter Traverse of the Mamores

On Friday 28th March, I decided to brave the A82 and made my way to Kinlochleven. A quick bit of faffing, and then I was off at 10:37am heading towards the Eastern end of the Mamores.  I hadn’t quite decided whether to bother with Sgurr Eilde Mor, and given how cold and windy it was,

Leyland 10k & Lancaster 4k

Leyland Boxing Day 10k Results | Strava track I arrived at Leyland around 9am and quickly realised the car park surface was an ice rink. Runners were slipping and sliding at registration. I was quite surprised that nobody seemed too concerned, and the race was obviously going ahead. I faffed around warming up, and stripped down

Glasgow Parkrun #251

Results The last time I ran the Glasgow Parkrun (apart from last week with the Baby Jogger) was way back in November 2012, when I finished 3rd in 17:25. This week it was cold and rainy. I set off reasonably fast, but without over-cooking it, and went through the first kilometre in 3:18.  I found
