Deuchary Hill Race

Strava track

Deuchary is a nice runnable hill race, with more trail than hill.

The results, when they appear won’t make much sense, since only a small proportion runners followed the advertised route.

Unfortunately Adrian’s route marking had been sabotaged again. I was lucky that Adrian was running right behind me, so shouted myself, Harry Gilmore and Pete Simpson back at the key right-hand turn. A few others followed us, including Nick Mardall and Donald Kerridge of Deeside, but I’m guessing that most of the rest of the field went off piste at this point.

It was quite fun catching all the short-cutters, once we’d dropped back onto the main trail. Just before Deuchary proper, I was surprised to meet Andrew and Iain Gilmore jogging up behind me. I wasn’t quite sure what detour they’d taken, but it was handy to follow them for a while up to the main summit.

After that I let Nick Mardall go ahead to save the trouble of looking for the markers.

Once on the return track, I ploughed on passing Nick, Donald, a Carnethy runner, then 3 more runners on the long stony track back to Cally Car Park to finish in around 1:38:12, which was a PB by more than 7 minutes!
