Glasgow Parkrun No.33

18th July 2009

3 Westies made the early start to get down to Pollok Park in time for the 33rd running of the Glasgow Parkrun. With a mere 243 runners on the startline, a speedy start is imperative, and downhill sloping tarmac ensures a mad cavalry charge for the first 100 metres. I let the whippets hare off before reeling most of them in over the next 400 metres to move up to the 3rd place at the top of the first little climb. From that point on I tussled with Robert Soutar (Shettleston) around the first lap until he got away, followed by George Taylor of Giffnock who glided past with me floundering in his wake. I dug deep on the 2nd lap to limit the damage and finished 5th in 17:30, just 5 seconds behind Rob and 8 seconds behind George. Ellen made her first appearance and clocked 20:21, just ahead of Pollok old-timer Hamilton who cruised round in a PB-equalling time of 20:39.
