Irvine Cyclists v Harriers

I ran this race today and so did Cat and Neil, and Elizabeth cyclocrossed it.  The forecast had threatened double raindrops though mild, but all was benign on the line at Irvine Sports Club.  A big lap of the sports fields first, taking care to avoid slidey cyclists, then over the river to the moor.

Garscube Gallop

Results | Tour of Clydeside details This fast, furious and fun 7km was second counter in the Tour of Clydeside alliterative series on all this week.  Four varying laps up and down and around Dawsholm woods, continually changing course on the twisting paths meant there could be no let-up as you never knew who might be chasing you down.  I managed

Arrochar Alps

Results An elite band of runners gathered at Arrochar for this classic, with only your correspondent making the selection from Westies.  The conditions were generally excellent with much sunshine and only a brief shower.  We could see the way for a change and just how long and steep those climbs and descents are.  Right from

The Neilston Pad Run

Photos | Results This was a fun runaround of a course, mainly on tracks and paths, undulating with not too much climbing and some open sections of good fast running. A handful of gun runners shot off the front and were out of sight by the time we got offroad proper to loop around the famous

Balloch to Clydebank Half Marathon, 14 April 2013

Results   It was a dreich morning on Sunday, damp and breezy, as we crowded in Jenners’ foyer at Lomond Shores before being sent on our way.  After a few corners getting out of Balloch, I settled into the third group on the long streets through Alexandria and Renton. The head wind was noticeable but

Mt Kinabalu Climbathon

This race in Malaysian Borneo is billed as the toughest in the world, but that was the previous version to the 4095m mountain top; this edition was somewhat tamer to allow more participants.  It was the last skyrace of the season and the skyrunning elite were in attendance, as well as Asian competitors including an under-the-radar Nepalese

Gold Coast Airport Marathon

1st July 2012 Results | David’s split times This event just down the coast is the main target of the Redman Runners who I’ve been getting in the long runs with in Brisbane. I’d only ever done the Loch Ness Marathon, in 2004 before joining Westies and becoming a proper runner, but a recent half

The Grindleford Gallop

Results | Route A 21 mile challenge for walkers, and 333 runners too, on paths, tracks, moorland and parkland in the White Peak about Eyam, Longstone Moor, Bakewell and Chatsworth estate and culminating along the high escarpments above the Derwent valley. The route joined together many of my excursions with the local club in Derbyshire.

Nine Edges Endurance

This was a fundraiser for Edale Mountain Rescue, a 20 miler point-to point along the gritstone edges of the Peak District, from Ladybower Reservoir to near Chatsworth House in Derbyshire. More of a long distance event than a race, some 300 folk were walking or running the route or mountain biking 40miles with some even
