Irvine Cyclists v Harriers

I ran this race today and so did Cat and Neil, and Elizabeth cyclocrossed it.  The forecast had threatened double raindrops though mild, but all was benign on the line at Irvine Sports Club.  A big lap of the sports fields first, taking care to avoid slidey cyclists, then over the river to the moor.  This was great fun on twisty narrow singletrack amongst the gorse and deliberate hills to give some favour to the runners.  There was no time to think about pace, just concentrate on the route and keep ahead.  Several people said course changes made this year the best yet.  Back round the sports fields, I held off my pursuer who was getting a lot of local support.  The day was topped off with a big spread of tea and cakes in the clubhouse and a gift table for all to take home a token prize.  The race has been organised since 1958 with many illustrious runners and cyclists names on the trophy.  A cyclist won this year.  Elizabeth was a close second on the bikes.
