Arrochar Alps

Results

An elite band of runners gathered at Arrochar for this classic, with only your correspondent making the selection from Westies.  The conditions were generally excellent with much sunshine and only a brief shower.  We could see the way for a change and just how long and steep those climbs and descents are.  Right from the off, we were reminded even the run-in through Glen Loin is quite testing.

I worked my way backwards through the field from the Ben Vorlich climb onwards, slowing to hillwalking speed often, particularly on the rough Narnain descent (to take in the view).  For such an epic course, the day was a low-key affair with quiet no-fuss organisation by Rob and his willing helpers – thanks to all.  Mark Harris (Lomond) and Andrea Priestley (Ochil) won copious amounts of the sponsor Fyne Ales’ finest.  I finished well down but claim my league bonus points for sole representation…
