Grim’s gala gallop

I’m sure that Johnston and Cap’n Chris never intended to include “fun runs” in Westy news, but us old yins have to find our fun where we can. The village where I grew Up(lawmoor) held its gala day today, with a tempting feature: a Fun Run round the Halket, a nice hilly 5.5 miler on secondary roads which was my fave training run 40+ yrs ago when I was a gawky G.U.Hare & Hound. (OK, enough memories). Off trotted a mixed bunch of runners, led by a skinny quine and several paunchy blokes puffing in her wake. At 4 miles I was till holding forth (and 4th), but on the long downhill towards the finish, 2 blokes sped past. Still, a finish time just under 44 minutes, five minutes behind the fast lass (s.q.) winner, not a bad day’s training!
Now I must get ready for the Dunlop Fun Run next weekend. This could become a habit? Summer Fun Run league anyone?
