Halket in the rain

14 drookit ducks set out over an undulating 5.5 mile loop along narrow country roads from the Mure Hall in Uplawmoor. Yes, the annual meet-the neighbours beano, the village Gala Day, had rolled round again in a rainstorm. May I reassure any fair-weather fun runners that rain is in fact a help rather than a hindrance – it keeps you hydrated, although it extends that service to your t-shirt too. Anyway…a bigger field (14) than last year’s 9, but cheery encouragement from the locals, even to a Neilston defector like myself. Plenty of good home baking to refuel afterwards, plus the youngest (teenage, just) R&B band I’ve ever heard to entertain (or deafen) us all. Seems they’re local, too. What’s come over the sleepy village since I were a lad?
