Cam Crashes Carnethy’s Circumnavigation Canter…
… And JD Joins the Journey.
This is the title JD came up with after our Saturday run which started and finished at a pub, visited 4 pubs along the way, and included a flask of whisky mac and a Sigg bottle of sloe gin to boot!
We both travelled through to Edinburgh to join the Carnethy guys for their annual circumnavigation of Edinburgh run. It’s a 33 mile run which tries to follow the historic city boundary. Avoiding pavements wherever possible meant running:
-
through fields,
-
along disused railways (both the cycle path type and the overgrown type where the council have build piles of rubble to stop the trail bikes using the path as a race-track),
-
over bridges,
-
along beaches (sandy and stony),
-
up riverside paths,
-
under bridges,
-
along tramlines,
-
and finally finishing over the hills of Capelaw, Allermuir and Caerketton in the Pentlands.
It was a pleasure to run on a windy but dry February weekend. A huge thank you is due to Carnethy for having us along, and especially to Jim for organising us all. JD and I were 2 of the 7 who ran the whole thing with countless others running part of the route or cycling instead. A great day out which was filled with banter and proved you don’t need to head to the mountains to have an adventure.
