Caerketton 2014: no bogs no burns …

… but a smashing wee race to finish off the Bog and Burn series. I hadn’t done this version of the route before but really enjoyed it, maybe because I wasn’t last for a change! 102 starters waited for the juniors to finish their well-subscribed race, the final two were not much more than toddlers

Jura Race 2013

Here are a few photos from this year’s Jura Race courtesy of Barbara Macleod. She reports that Mindy finished around 5 hours 16 minutes and Manny had a great run for a probable 13th place.

Ben Nevis

Nevis time again and heavy rain throughout Friday night but a forecast of improvement on Saturday afternoon. In fact the better weather arrived in the morning so it looked like near-perfect weather for the race – cool and showery. At the registration table I noticed a lot of newspaper clippings on the wall behind and

Chapelgill Hill Race 2005

Another beautiful sunny day like Bishop Hill but about two seasons warmer. Good turnout of Westies (10 runners) and and a lot of brown shirts too – probably something to do with Dixter’s party. Good race for spectators too as the first two were split by only one second. There were others tussles going on

Dumyat 2006

Lovely evening with a record 211 starters – in two batches as a second race had to be run to cater for a lot of Edinburgh based runners who arrived late because of traffic problems. Another big turnout of 18 Westies. As usual I started near the back of the field but unfortunately the organisers

Kaim Hill 2006

Another great turnout of Westies, exactly one third of the 51 runners, on a dreich night with the hill shrouded in thick mist. The start was delayed to give late arrivals due to various road works and diversions time to get organised. The junior race set off first and seemed to be comprised of a

Merrick Hill Race

20th september 1997 Chris, Murdo and I set out expecting to meet plenty of Westies using the Merrick Race as a final training race before the Breweries. What a disappointment we were outnumbered by Carnethy and even Ochils! Conditions were excellent with only a tiny patch of mist sitting on the main summit to start
