Maddy Moss Hill Race

14th July 2010

A rainy night in Tillicoultry seemed like an attractive offer to many people, as the Maddy Moss saw a good turnout despite the downpour. Heavy rain fell throughout the race, with the runners ascending into the offending cloud near the top of The Law.

Local boy John Denovan was the first Westie home, with a cracking descent to make up around 12 places from Ben Cleuch’s summit, where he was trailing Graham Kelly and Scott Mitchell, among others. After falling out of the narrow trod last year, Graham waved Scott through to be second Westie.

Further back, Dom Ketley enjoyed his first Maddy Moss, and a tired Steffen still outran me by a large margin.

Random kit checks were in force, as advertised on the SHR website, understandable on such a wet night and as the race is a Category AM anyway. Many thanks to Ochil HR and all their marshalls who must have had a very damp evening on the hills.

Scott and Dom managed to endure the journey back with me as my iPod provided a fine mix of old skool vs new skool punk, deftly switching from The Undertones to Green Day, the Sex Pistols to Blink 182, and with a few one-hit wonders like The Jags thrown in for good measure.

I have no idea who won the race, but I’m sure the results will be on SHR soon.
