a trip to calderglen

For those of you who (like me) think of East Kilbride as a maze of roundabouts (as it generally is!), Calderglen Country Park comes as a delightful surprise. Don “Corleone” Reid had arranged a nice short handicap trail race through the glen, along the river, and round the back of an industrial estate. A nice short run to prepare me for Croftamie and the Glasgow 10k, I thought. No hazards other than countless Calderglen athletes out training? Wrong.
The Grim running style has been commented on before…minimal knee-lift to save energy…a shuffle minus the zimmer frame. Folks, this is not a suitable gait when running on stony woodland paths. With half a mile to go, having been passed by every Westy, I must have switched off …OUCH! Now I wonder what has become of captain Chris’ X-rated photo of my mangled remains crossing the finishing-line?
PS Hairmyres A&E – great little clinic – patched me up in double-quick time!
