Dumyat Hill Race 2022

A good crew of Westies travelled up to Stirling University on Wednesday night for the Dumyat Hill Race. Evening sunshine, dry conditions underfoot, a strong field and plenty of friendly faces – what more could you ask for on a Wednesday night?

I’m still a bit gubbed from an April bout of Covid so top performance was not on the agenda this evening. I hung about mid-pack, making an effort to stay away from my usual rivals and keep a reasonable pace. Once we were out the uni grounds in to the woods and on to the hill I started to enjoy myself, savouring the warm(ish) sun and enjoying watching the fasties tear past on their way down – especially Ellen storming the field with a commanding lead.

The descent was a delight, efficient and steady running from beginning to end, the joy of consistent movement. Back on the flat I enjoyed picked off a few scalps, yelling at Paul to stay with me to improve his placing – shoulda listened pal – and even won a sprint finish with some Ochils dude tried to pip me on the finish line.

A fine evening all round and a fantastic performance from Ellen!
