Carnethy 5

A blistering return to form for Blair left JD feeling gutted. Apparently he saw me going up Carnethy and thought he would catch me!! Ha ha ha ha ha!! I wonder how David Duncan felt way way back at around 66 minutes. Oh boy now I’m looking forward to the Nationals on Saturday. I suspect JD will be SHITting h’sel thinking about Saturday. By the way where was DON REID?

Anyway, I thought I’d clear this up before I get any hassle from folks. My time was about 62.24. NOT just over 61 as I thought my watch said! I got so excited at the thought of beating my PB that I didn’t really look at the time properly……..but I still scalped a few folk and helped Westies gain 6th team place. And congratulations to the wimmin who also collected a 6th place team effort.

Top dog for the day was, as expected, wee Ronnie. And in second place we had big Gaz. (That is two vets). Next in was Manny who is soon to be a vet (about 7 years time). After myself the next four westies in were all vets. These statistics don’t look too promising. Looking at Gordon’s impressive performance though it looks as if he might be in with a serious shout for the super-vets SHR champs if he fancies. Murdo, you’ve got some competition there.

What on earth happened to the Club Cap’n?? What a diabolical performance only just beating ol’ Baxter. C’mon now, you must stop doing a track session on Mondays then a hill session on the Tuesdays, it’ll catch up with you, or should I say, it already has!

Funniest moment of the day was not seeing Al Wilson coming over the finishing line in only one shoe but shortly after that. It was when Al, Manny, Dave and I went back to the deep boggy bit near the start/finish to look for the lost PB Trainer. And racing across the field towards the finishing line was Graeme ‘crap computer’ Orr. Manny noticed another runner catching up with Graeme and screamed to give it some extra effort because he was going to be pipped at the post by said runner. So G. duly gave it laldy and crossed the line before his pursuer swooped off to the left and didn’t bother to cross the finishing line………….because he had already finished 15mins earlier and was just having a wee cool down!!

Best effort the day is a toss up between Pat winning the first lady super vet prize (I think) and also beating Drew or Ian Murray who put in a sterling show by completing his first Carnethy 5 in just over the 90 minutes. You decide yourselves.

But the ultimate accolade of the day was not the prize for the first policeman/army finisher but for Drew’s incredible achievement in appearing at 23 Carnethy races over the years. A special award was made to him to commemorate this. Well done Drew!!

All round I’d say it was a pretty great day out for the Westies. See you all on Saturday for the Nationals.
