Calderglen 10K Trail Race

Given the number of hill races on this weekend it wasn’t a surprise that there were only three Westies running in last night’s Calderglen 10K Trail Race. This was my first time running this one and I met Don at the start who described the course to me. I did the first 1km loop as a warm-up, principally to keep moving and keep away from the midgie hell that was the start line. It’s an absolute cracker with mostly fast running around the trails but there are also a few steep digs out from the river. I started off well in 6th place but I managed to lose three places by the time the first 3km had passed. I did manage to keep a constant distance between myself and Stephen Allan of Kirkintilloch Olympians but I never managed to close the gap and in the end he finished 20 seconds ahead of me. I’ll be doing this race again but Donald Petrie told me that the Famous Grouse Crieff 10K on Sunday 10th July is quite similar and so I’ll be sticking my name down for that one soon!
