White Tops & Kenmore Hill Races

These two races were both won by our very own Brian Bonnyman who is far too modest to write posts on them himself. At White Tops last Friday the race was won by BB Younger in a new record time which was pretty amazing given that the heavens had opened about 10 minutes befoire the start and the race was run in a steady rain which meant most of the paths looked more like burns. Brian won fairly easily, establishing an early lead which grew to several minutes …….further back I was pretty happy in what was my 3rd race of the week to get closer to my nemesis Davy Duncan who passed me about halfway but I hung on and finished less than a minute behind. Good to see Tom Bowie back running again after his recent heart surgery. But the gloy went to our own man from Forfar who slipped away, with his prize, before the prize giving proper.
Last night was the hill race at Kenmore Highland Games which I do every year and most years, like last night, Brian Bonnyman is the only other Westie as he takes a holiday in the village in early July every year. Weather wasn’t too bad and the result was pretty similar to White Tops, Brian Bonnyman started steadily but pulled away on the climb to establish a good lead which was never seriously challenged, winning in a time of around 33 minutes with Ian Anderson about a minute behind. First lady was ex-Westie Shona Robertson in her new resplendent Shettleston vest. Using local knowledge, which some other competitors seemed to confuse with cheating, I managed to get well ahead of Davy Duncan and Trevor Shaw from Killin this time and finished first local …..round about 10th or so ……weather held up well and conditions were good apart from a really muddy section near the top of the hill. Well done to BB Younger, two wins in two races, a true credit to Westies !
