Westies Triumph at Comrie!

The Simon Wake Comrie Hills Relay is a 42k relay race with 2,110m of ascent, run in 4 stages for teams of 5 runners. This year the Westies fielded two teams, and the A-team came away with a very respectable third place in face of some stiff opposition. Indeed, the top two finishers both had to beat the existing race record to finish ahead of us! Congratulations to Gregor, Chris, Cam, Gwyn and James for their wonderful effort!

The B-team also did respectably well, with a mid-table finish. For a change, I took the first leg, and handed the baton on to JD and Davie who put in a cracking effort over the tough hill section. Ellie was in great form, and consolidated our position in the long third leg. Father-to-be Ryan, showing what can be done with no apparent training, put in a sizzling final leg to bring us home in 18th place, just ahead of Carnethy B.

As usual, there was plenty of craic while waiting for runners to come in. At the finish, Strathearn Harriers once again put on a superb BBQ, including a delicious spread of home baking. This is an event to recommend without hesitation. Let’s see if we can’t get a few more teams in for next year!
