Westies Alpine Division

Roddy and Leyre used to be west end residents, canal patrollers, persistent race goers and the Westies youngest European couple. Now they make up the entire Westies Alpine Division.. The Westies Alpine Division made their way to Les Gets for a weekend of intense altitude training. The weekend comprised of skiing, drinking, bowling and of course running.

Altitude training is of course aided by the inordinate consumption of bakery for breakfast. Saturday was comprised of a full day of downhill skiing (no energetic X-country or ski touring) broken up by a lovely runners lunch.. Leyre and Roddy happily consumed an undercooked tartiflette for dinner and kindly didn’t mention the very al dente texture. Post dinner entertainment took us out into Les Gets proper and to Bar Bowling. Roddy sparkled on the bowling alley, he had four strikes, and if he ever twists an ankle he can now fall back on bowling.

Sunday brought us to running. Mont Chery is a beautiful 1830 metre peak North of Les Gets which normally has epic views of Mont Blanc. The Saturday sun had disappeared and was replaced by a dank Sunday. The three of us had a beautiful 700 metre climb from the front door, weaving the way to the top with snow all the way and we were gifted by occasional views (picture of Mont Blanc was from Mont Chery but from earlier in the week). The descent was rapid with almost skiing style running. It was lovely to meet up with the Westies Alpine Division, I look forward to our next meeting and I would like to urge other Westies to come over and meet up with the Westies Alpine Division!
