Scottish National Cross Country

A strangely low turnout of 10 Westies for our National Cross Country, in the scenic surrounds of Callander Park.

The weather and underfoot conditions couldn’t have been more favourable. Dry, cool and almost sunny for a while.

The ladies were off at 1.25pm for the 8km 2-lap version. For the first time in many years, there was some drama at the sharp end, with Rosie Smith, Susan Partridge and Beth Potter all locked shoulder to shoulder after the first lap. Beth Potter eventually pulled clear to win in 28:14. First Westie female was Ellie, 51st in 33:40, followed by Pauline, Gaynor and Claire in 41:34, 41:39 and 45:45 respectively.

In the men’s race Niall had a great run to finish 79th in 44:28, Jon Slowe was not far behind in 45:27 (112th), I pottered round in 48:50 for 220th, with Johnston just behind in 49:13, John Quinn ran a solid 54:52, and Gibson battled round in 58:58.
