Nigel Goes Off Track in Pursuit of Fastest Time

Nigel recorded the incredibly fast time of 12:46 for 2.5miles on Saturday at the West District Relays before confessing that he had “inadvertantly” missed out a large chunk of the course by cutting a corner.

Elsewhere, in the men’s race at Stepps, Mark was fastest Westie on a flat, fast course, but not far behind was Charlie, with Don and Dave just on his heels. Blair closed his gap on Charlie from the MacAndrew’s and Archie’s form is improving as he recovers from injury. Brian Edridge gallantly pulled out of the Clydesdale incomplete 4th team to ensure Westies finished with two complete teams, and was only a few seconds slower than Archie.

In the Women’s race, Liz ran the opening leg, finishing in 16:23, 12 seconds faster than Ana, who took over for the second stage. The closing stage was run by Muffy, who competed in place of the elsusive and non-communicative Christine. Although almost a minute slower than Liz, Muffy did have a decent excuse ( over and above her age) in that she had already run 8 miles in training that morning!

With only twp weeks to the start of the Winter League, Liz looks like the favourite, if whe can manage to turn up at enough events.

The men’s league looks too difficult to call, with Mark, Charlie, Don and Dave ll likely to challenge Gibbie. Meanwhile Nigel looks as if he’ll go to just about any lengths to obtain top points. However, my money is on Blair, who looks determined to compete in as many races as possible.
