Glasgow Parkrun #189

Having run a Glasgow Parkrun PW three weeks ago with 18:02, I decided to make a more consistent effort this time, without hammering off too hard at the start, and perhaps staying stronger in the 2nd half.

Scanning the startline, there didn’t appear to be too much competition apart from perhaps Stuart MacDougall. So after a very quiet "go" from Richard Leyton, I hammered off as fast as I could from the start, but Stuart still powered off faster than me and took up the pace as the route levelled out. I had intermittent company from Ross Mackenzie on the first lap, but at the start of the 2nd lap I put my foot down and made a half-baked effort at closing down Stuart. The gap was coming down a fraction, but not enough to really inspire me to chase him in earnest. So instead I just aimed at keeping a smooth running style going, and put in a bit off an effort on the final run in, which was just as well since in clinched me a course PB of 17:11 for 2nd place, just 6 seconds behind Stuart.

Other Westies were Graham Kelly (20:38), Ellie with a post-Benjamin PB of 21:03, and Ian Struthers as a first timer with 25:51.
