Farleton Knott Fell Race Nr. Kendal

Thought I’d try out this race on my way back from Lytham.

A punishing short-ish race- in fact a devil of an ascent, that you climb

twice.

Booked in for a 12 noon start and that was 4 Junior Races,so around

1.15 we’re off and racing: thro’ the field over the road up a hell of a

climb of a field, then we’re over the stile and trying to recover rapidly

from that pounding in the chest.

Now it’s at least runable- fast that is-thro’ the ferns that have been flattened, now up again, fairly punishing, eventually getting up there to

gain a milli-second of a view before an absolutely crazy descent on the scree. It’s wild, but quite manageable, getting the feet moving. The thing is,now you contour round & go back up again. Oh no,

anything but that you mutter as you struggle to get one foot up

after another. After an age it takes pity on you and flattens,no, you can’t describe it thus: it’s merely not so steep. Then you’re up at last, turn & all you want is to recover (that is crawl away & die in peace ).No, now you can really blitz down that runable path ,thro’

the ferns, etc.then save something for another short climb, dodge

under the tree branches, over the stile again, and leg it down that

field, and you’re back.

Tough,and enjoyable race. BOFRA
