Comrie relay 2010

A great day out at the Comrie hill relay race, where two Westies teams (old men and women of a certain age) sported the yellow vest. The weather was fine, the competition was tough, the nettles were in bloom, and the mud was brown.

The men’s team can be summed up by one word – "John", the team comprising John Donnelly, John Hamer, John Quinn, John Gorgas and John Reid.

The women’s team can be summed up by two words – "beauty and elegance"., the team comprising Cat M, Elsie S, Ana T, Shona R and Muffy C. Welcome back to racing Ana, who stormed around leg 2 with Elsie, and to Shona who made her comeback on the long leg 3.

Navigation was a low point for all runners on leg 4, most suffering from a severe bout of Muffy-itis (including the first team, who lost their position). Muffy and Don tussled for the coveted most-lost Westie prize, perhaps Don just edging past as navigationally challenged Muffy actually gained two places on the leg from other more lost souls.

Official stats: 35 teams took part. Westies male vets were 21st and 5th male vet team. Westies women were 31st overall and 7th womens team.

All in all a lovely day. Well organised ( except for route marking!), nice barbecue and cakes, relaxed atmosphere.
