Ardoch Rig

24th May

Although the weather conditions were fine during the race itself, the heavy showers all day beforehand ensured that the water levels were appropriately raised around the course. Mr Turnbull, the race organiser was positively drooling at the conditions of the bog after setting the trail; the rest of us questioned whether it was, by definition, a bog as there was little sign of any solid substance underneath.

During the race itself, Archie showed signs early on in the race of a return to fitness, before wallowing in the conditions half-way round. Here, Kevin Holliday displayed a miraculous ability to walk, nay run, on water. He almost caught Dave in the bog, who had to demonstrate a turn of speed not seen for many years to keep Kevin at bay. A welcome return to races by Keith, who ran exactly the same time as last year. Pat and Noreen had a battle for first Westiewoman with Pat getting the upper hand. Drew brought up the rear, which was quite understandable given that he had already been round the course once, marking the trail. Unfortunately, Ochils took the team prize, despite the excellent packing by the Westies front three.
