Applecross highland games

Another glorious saturday in the Highlands if not quite as hot as last weekend.the hill race was a much more low key event but rougher on the open hill than at Lochcarron,eventually only eleven of us lined up for the race and we had to wend our way through some inattentive spectators to get out of the games field and on to a forest track,once on the open hill the field spread out and I was chasing the first woman who gradually pulled awayfrom me.We were soon on the tussocky descent where my wimpish descending technique meant I made up no ground to the finish.We managed to win a dinner set for 12 in the raffle and had a pint in the Applecross hotel with fantastic views of Skye in the evening sun the drive back to Lochcarron over the Bealach was equally fine.The only downside of the day was the news that Lochcarron had lost to Ballahullish in the Sutherland Cup shinty final.
