Aonach Mor

Results

Getting the New Year off to a good start seven hardy Westies turned up for the Aonach Mor uphill race. The weather conditions were good for racing, and the new online registration meant we had numbers and were off stretching our legs before I’d realised I’d got out of the warm (by comparrison) car.

I always get a sense of dread warming up, especially in this race when you remember there is no let up, it does exactly what it says on the tin, uphill all the way!

Anyway we set off and soon the front runners were well out of sight, (Finlay Wild finishing in a near record breaking 22.16) then it really was a case of get your head down and get on with it! I settled into my usual plodding pace and I could see the Westie yellow of John D and John H way up ahead. The race finished at the Snow Goose Cafe and I have to give a special mention to Paula for her very encouraging cheers as I neared the finish line, I’m sure that saved me a few seconds!

There was soup and a roll in the cafe for all racers and a Gondola ride back down, a good way to begin 2013!
