Allan Scally Memorial Road Race 2012

On this day in 1991 Liz McColgan won the New York Marathon and today at the Scally’s we were honoured with the presence of her daughter, fastest female of the day 27:32.

Despite the Dumyat Dash today and the South side Six tomorrow we still managed a male team entry in a race long frequented by Westerlands.

There were perfect crisp autumn racing conditions with the Westie gazebo erected in pride of place right behind the start line.

Our team was a combination of young and old with Grim and myself the latter and Ciaran and a new member Michael Sweeney introduced by Chris, the former. Apparently Chris and Michael met at ante natal classes and it seems to have paid of as Michaels breathing technique could not be faulted.

Ciaran ran leg 1 in 32:23

I ran leg 2 in :31:21

Michael ran leg 3 in 27:56

And Graeme ran leg 4 in 37:32

Graeme was over the moon when he realised he had beaten his target of 38 mins.

All in all a great days racing.

Central AC won the race with Shettleston second and Edinburgh Uni 3rd.

1st ladies team was Dundee uni with Edinburgh uni 2nd and Shettleston Harriers 3rd
