The Whangie Whizz

Another extremely slick Westies production by Dave and his multitude of willing helpers, another record turnout and what a blast of a race!! The trepidation of running out into a cool breezy evening was immediately forgotten at the off with the need to charge up to the stile to get a place along the tricky rocky path. Jethro Lennox rapidly disappeared out of sight. Then before the Whangie, Angela Mudge came storming past like a steam train up to the chasing group. The boggy slopes down to the road weren’t a surprise to me anymore, but must have been a shocker for the Jog Scotland folk – I hope they try another race. Even Manny lost his shoe, twice. The black cattle seemed bemused, unmoved as we blurred by. Up ahead on the drag to the trig point, Angela Mudge could be seen powering to second place for a while. Along the tricky rocky path again, the race for second must have been frenetic with five folk finishing within 10 seconds. Nige went so hard, he said he was seeing double.

It was great to have so many Westies supporters marshalling at every turn willing us all on. A very fine start to the Bog and Burn series indeed.
