Screel Race

All the westies who did not go to this race (ie 99% of the club) missed a fantastic day out on the Solway coast. This was the first race this year where one was in danger of getting sun stroke. It was also the 2nd scottish counter and the first of the shorts. It quickly became obvious that there was more fast guys than you could shake a stick at. I quickly came to this conclusion finding myself quite far down the field as we battered up the forest road. Once into the trees it was cooler, but a depressingly large no of runners sneaked past as i mentally counted how many V50 ‘s were in front.

The run along the summit ridge was great, and i started picking people off. The race was marred by an injury to a Carnethy runner who fell on the descent near the summit. Word was that he may have broken a collar bone or dislocated a shoulder. An ambulance was quickly on the scene, and i hope his injury was not too serious.

So who turned up from Westies?

I think i may have been 1st Westie, followed by Hamilton, Brian, young Deborah Stokoe having another good run and finally Brenda.

Ah so where was Mannie you may ask? Was he at a secret ultra mountain marathon training camp in the Alps? no that was’nt it. Was he doing a big training run over all the 4000 footers? No that was not it either!! I just can’t quite remember where Brenda said he was!! Does anybody know where he may have been??
