Glasgow Parkrun No.8

After reading Chris’s report on the parkrun a few weeks ago and that I’m still in the burning the xmas Turkey off mode, I thought I’d give it a go.

So I set off on a frosty winters morning, map in hand to negotiate the maze that is pollock park. After a few wrong turns and nearly losing all friction between bicycle and road a few times, I arrived safely at the the starting line.

The conditions were a bit slippy under foot, but apart from the start in the car park, it was bearable. The run itself was fine, settled into 5th and sat behind 4th until the short hill, where my hill running pride kicked in and I whizzed past him and into 4th.

By that stage the front 3 were merely dots in the distance, so the second lap consisted of me listening out for heavy panting from any competitors behind and dodging man & dog combos that littered the park.

On my way round I was helpfully guided by fellow westie Johnston, who with a hamstring injury was being a marshal for the day. I waved at him first time around but to no avail, second time I had a longer run up and Johnston’s shouts of encouragement helped me along nicely.

After the race my friend Ronan (who I dragged along) and myself were joined by Johnston for tea and crumpets in the Burrell Collection cafe.

Apart from a good catch up chat with Johnston and the pair of us trying to recruit a new westie, we discovered out that Ronan was recently at a dinner party with fellow westie Nigel! Small world.

As Chris said it was a very pleasant way of spending a saturday morning, two thumbs up from me.
