This event was blessed with good weather for the third year in a row and the Westerlands team improved their time once more. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to beat the Glasgow branch of Stornoway AC! At first Kilbarchan and Shettleston fought it out at the front with Shetts winning from Ronhill Cambuslang then Kilbarchan. Garscube took the ladies’ title from Bella Harriers and Kilbarchan.

Sam Alexander zipped away from the gun with the real flyers and positioned us well up the field. I took around 40s off last year’s time as I tried to minimize the damage before handing over to team captain John Quinn who looked as swift and steady as always. Gregor Stewart ran the glory leg in fine style (but please get that man a Westies vest!), threatening Sam’s opening time and putting in an incredible finishing sprint to chase all the way to the line.

Another great day out in Houston. High octane racing and good fun, and great to leave with the feeling that we’d had a good run and can deliver more in the weeks and months to come.
