FRA relay Peak District

Off to great Westies start by getting thrown off the campsite as soon as we arrived,by a little bearded man with a big torch, and a wee wummin wearing a red coat with the “Friendly Club” emblazoned on the back of it.

But luckily before we left the pub a guy had offered his Garden if we needed somewhere to camp,we ended up crashing out on his living room floor.

Back to the Race – Keith got us under way with a solid performance on the fast runable 1st leg, handing over to Chris & Damon in 68th and with plenty of bodies to chase down on the long 2nd stage. Which they duly did, pulling in an incredible 31 places.

An inspired team selection by Chris just before the start put me on the navigation leg with Cripins pal Patrick, keeping to my strengths, I took charge of punching the card at the check points. For the next hour and a quarter I was dragged around the course, tripping and stumbling, and finally falling head first into mud and cowshit a mile from the end, but we stormed down the last slope passing the Carnethy pair.Somehow managing to run the 8th fastest time, we had now moved upto 21st.

Crispin on the Anchor leg complaining that he was in the same sort of shape as his van(which had to be towed back to Wales), unfortunately couldn’t hold off the challenge from Carnethy, but he did pull in another place to give us a superb top 20 position a mere 6 minutes behind Shets in 11th, and a minute behind Carnethy.

Chris for his sins ran the final leg for the Carnethy B team.
