Eildon 2 Hills Race 23.6.07

After missing the start last year by a few minutes, this year would be a good 2 minutes early. Well, if you were driving at the week-end no doubt you were beset by the torrents impeding your “normal progress”.

Every man and his dog’s Gala days led me to the “alternative route”, to Melrose. Would this be any quicker, would he arrive on time, would he even want to arrive on time- Oh forget it. Can we just get on?

A muggy atmosphere in the town ,strolling past the shops for a finely honed warm-up. Apparently, the Butcher’s shop proved to be too much of a temptation for our Brian (Brennan) with it’s array of

feshly baked pies etc. 2 meat pies for later, and 2 mutton pies was it Brian that just could not be resisted 1/2 an hour before the off.

Yes,don’t know how he kept them down. Well, if you must know,

the explanation ran along the lines of “I’m just a lad from Clydebank

what do you expect”. Well done Brian for holding it together.

Gala Harriers are obviously up on the promotional side with the race being mentioned on Radio Scotland that morning. Thought Radio 4’s Today programme were there too with James Naughtie,

or his double, lurking near the said Pie shop.

So that would be “Now could you inform our listeners about this

Hill Race, and are you entirely sure this is a wise…………………”

Perhaps not.

Is it time for the results yet?

Report?” Computer said timed out “.

Well, it was very muggy, very wet (we were duly warned at the start underfoot).

In short,a fine day out .

Try it you’d love it.

Gala put on a fine race thanks to them and for the Mountain Rescue. Also, for the teas and rolls and cakes after. Strangely enough did’nt see Brian for tea and cakes. I wonder?
