Beinn Resipol Hill Race Report

(posted on behalf of “David and team”)

The weather cleared for Saturday and provided excellent running conditions. The race was won by our very own Robert Simpson in a time of 1:11:33, just 36 seconds off Tom Owens’ 2015 course record.

Robert – picturing himself being chased down the hill – managed to finish almost 10 minutes ahead of a clump of 5 runners who ran around 1:21-1:22. Second was Lochaber’s John Yells in 1:21:16 and third was Bjorn Verduijn of Shettleston Harriers in 1:21:34.

In the Women’s race Helen Brown of Mynydd Du (picture) won in a time of 1:36:40. Lyndsey Shaw came second in 1:43:15 and CJ MacPhail came third in her first ever hill race with a time of 1:51:15.

Great runs were had by other Westies. Leyre Flores finished in 4th with a time of 1:51:34. Damien Theaker finished first MV40 in 1:29:21. Roddy Cunningham ran 1:42:15. Don Reid finished 2nd MV50 in 1:46:14 and finally George Douglas finished 4th MV50 in 1:54:00.

This year pupils from local schools and members of the community were also running in a fun run around a short loop of the route. This was a brilliant wee addition to the event. We had a field of 41 in the hill race and 35 in the fun run.

After the race runners enjoyed soup, a buffet and a firkin of Glenfinnan Ale. For runners staying the night there was a folk session and an evening buffet.
There were great prizes donated by the Real Food café, Ardnamurchan Distillery and photographer Michael MacGregor. The Sinclair family of Resipole Holiday Park yet again provided a fantastic venue.

The race raised £580 for Ardnamurchan mental health and wellbeing charity Ewen’s Room.
