EK 10K

This was another typically cold, dreich, grey, winters day in EK, (much like a summers day in EK!) for the annual Hugh Wilson 10K. The organisers were a bit vague about the length of the course, (the running track was out of use), and most people I spoke to had PB’S but who knows? Anyway, Westies were a bit thin on the ground, with only 6 official entries and one unofficial, (Victoria, who at 14 was too young to enter under SAL rules, but was keen to bag her first 10K and get those vital points!). The big grudge match between Blair and Dave never materialised, because Dave and Muffy decided instead to go to Amsterdam for a short cultural break, (thats a dirty weekend to you and I!).

Anyway, back to what happened in the race. Well, Chris U disappeared en route to a sub 36 PB. Don’t know how Blair got on, but I’m sure he would be pleased to avoid a head to head with Dave!

Liz, Iain and Drew were locked in their own personal battle, with Liz gradually drawing away from Iain and Drew. Iain, i think eventually pulled away from Drew, who looked lke at ne point Victoria and I might catch, but after 5k, Drew’s strength and experience paid off, and we eventually lost sight of him. Victoria finally finished with a time of 51.57, which she was well pleased with, and is already looking forward to her next 10k!

times to follow, see you all at the west districts,

cheers,

Don.
