Wed Night Mugdock Run

For those that missed last night’s run, you missed a classic Westies jaunt.

Not satisfied with the route advertised on the website, Captain Chris proceeded to baffle the assembled runners with a series of interesting detours through Mugdock. Virtually every junction was met with a brief stop for route guesswork, producing a kind of bizarre fartlek session that was part running and part vigourous head scratching. Our haphazard progress disturbed much of the local birdlife, a field of cows and a small Viet Cong training camp before emerging back on a recognisable track. The highlight was undoubtedly the adventure playground section, apparently included to satisfy Johannes’ request for more obstacles during our runs. (Personally, I still suspect we came across it by accident and Chris just needed a vaguely plausible excuse!)

We finally emerged at the Carbeth huts (needless to say, not from the advertised direction) after rather more than an hour. By this point Nigel was beginning to worry that we hadn’t brought gear for an overnight stay, but we followed a rather more conventional route home, meaning we were out for about 1:50 in the end.

All in all, very enjoyable and thanks to everyone for their company on the way round. Quite what the 3 (possible) new Westies made of it all, I have no idea!
