Sron a Clachain

The second race of the Killin double header weekend and again the weather gods were incredibly kind. The field was depleted to just under 30 hardy souls, most of whom had done the Tarmachan race yesterday. Only 3 westies today, Manny, Brenda and myself and rumour had it that Mr Gorman had been celebrating his triumph yesterday rather enthusiastically …..so strong was this rumour that it magically reached the ears of Alan Smith, who Manny had only just beaten on Tarmachan, he had intended to head home after Saturday’s race but the opportunity to beat an apparently drink-sodden Gorman was just too good to miss and he was back and this time it was serious. So game on ……Alan went off like a man demented, climbing really quickly  on the short sharp ascent of Sron a Clachain, and it looked like curtains for Scotland’s most injured man, our very own MG, when Alan beat him to the summit. But it was not to be, although Alan’s descending skills are legendary, our boy Moany did the business yet again and somehow got past Alan on the way down to complete his second victory of the weekend in 23:. Ya dancer !  First lady was Julia Connor of Tinto in just under 31 minutes. I had a good run, coming in 9th in 31:10 and Brenda came in 27th. More food and prizes galore were on offer at Killin village hall yet again and it was an other truly great race organised by Trevor Shaw and Kate Forster who own the Outdoor Shop in Killin. On behalf of everybody who ran in either of this weekend’s races ……Thank You.
