Round Arran Relay

1988

A corker of a day, spoiled only by a 56 mile jaunt around the island. The long second stage south was made a longer second stage by moving the check point from Lamlash Oost Office to the Bowling Club, a cheap trick especially when it meant A Brown had 1/2 mile less to cover. Still just another challenge for the megamen. A Brown pulled in 3 places to finish 4th in south. He’s too shy to bragg … they were 3 duds though!

What no water stations? How could anyone expect me to run in these conditions, give me a drink.

The wimps headed off for the 1640 ferry leaving the rest of us, Wellings, Baxter, Brown and Calder to sample the delights of the front lawn of Duncan’s Bar. YP muses over the possibility of staying overnight and catching the early ferry in time for work. Personally a permanent banishment to Arran would do us all good.

One ritual missed this year was the familiar site of Hugo Sterersa hurling abuse from the safety of his Velocipede. Rumour has it that he was on the north stages but they are unconfirmed as all our north stage runners have wimped off.

News from the East: it turns out that a certain East coast runner has opted out of a job in the USA for an executive position South of Scotland; the money saved by Anglo membership will help towards the deposit on a 1/2 apartment in surbiton.

P O’Kane turns up at Brodick Highland Games with Ma-in-law, Brother, Sister, Wife etc. but ends up disgracing himself by coming last in the 800m.

Pete Baxter turned up on Friday to get some fishin’ in before the race today. The rest of the club left him at Duncan’s Bar on Sunday night where he was still fishin’ … for a second year vet student.
