Pressendye Hill Race

New race last Thursday at Tarland in Deeside organised by Deeside. Long way to go for a race but I used to live not far from there so suspected would be a good route and it was…..9k and 450m of climb..A few hundred metres of road at the start then a series of narrow dry paths either grassy or covered in pine needles…..no mud anywhere….with a section of wide forest track before the final pull up the last 500 feet or so of climb…..unfortunately no excuse to walk anywhere as most of the route is on a pretty steady gradient….round the OS pillar on top of Pressendye then back you go…..started steady got into a small group and got the head down and slogged away…didn’t really feel the effects of previous nights Whangie…..just before top of the hill Davie Duncan came past the whole group and I got on his tail, caught a few yards on him on first steep descent but then on the forest track he pulled away…..stuck in and passed rest of our wee group ….beating couple of Cosmics for the first time in a year or two…..finished in 57mins or so, 40+ secs behind DD……winner in under 41 mins was Harry Smith of Deeside who was 2nd at Ben Lomond and then a 17 year old who beat Dan Whitehead so more signs of new talent coming through. Pleased with my run as hadn’t run that fast for a long time and a great race if you’re ever in the vicinity
