National Cross Country Championships

1991

Course – fast grass course (not!). No mud ploughed fields or steep long hill.

Scalps claimed by Westies include R Quinn and T Murray.

I must say that when I joined Westerlands Cross Country Club I thought that its main aim was to run in Cross Country races, apparently only five other people in the club (men I mean, sorry girls) who actually think the same. Where were our road specialists who would have loved a fast fast unmuddy course?

Complaints were expressed at the start about how Westerlands, being well down the alphabet, always have further to run to the first corner in such events. Perhaps we should change the name to something beginning with ‘A’. how about Ailsa Craig Road Runners?
