Billed as Turbo X-rated "Pure Filth", this race lived up to its name by providing a few muddy bits on the 10-mile trail around Mugdock Country Park.

More than 400 runners crammed onto the start line, rubbing shoulders with several elite international fell runners and orienteers. The race started steadily enough before the pace started to tell and the field strung out. As usual I was battling alongside Paul Thompson for the first few km before opening a slight gap.

The route passed through much familiar territory with sections of Christmas Handicap and Childrens Home Run, but also with plenty of weaving through the forest on narrow trails. In the final couple of miles I managed to catch Brian McEwan and Dougal Ross to finish 9th.
