Meall nan Tarmachan

An absolutely fantastic race today. The weather was perfect, the race was incredibly well organised by Trevor and Kate with tea, coffee and scones available at race registration and afterwards there were several choices of soup, sandwiches galore and cakes aplenty all free as part of erase entry. To top that there was a huge number of prizes including 7 or 8 spot prizes.

6 Westies were in the field of poverty 50, myself, Hamilton, Christine, Manny, Brenda and rarer than spotting a Yeti an appearance by a long-term Westie, Gordon Robinson. The race started and we were off, after a few hundred metres on a flat track you turn on to a narrow path and the climb of 700m is on. Up at the sharp end, Manny reached the summit in 4th place behind Angela Mudge, A young Carnethy runner and Alan Smith and was still lying 4th as they turned off the ridge, by the time they got to the track Manny was in 2nd not far behind Alan and overhauled him on the 3km of track for a cracking victory. Angela was 4th and First Lady. Back with the slower people I had a good climb although couldn’t shake off a squad of people which meant there was no opportunity to relaxin or throttle back at any point. Got to the track ahead of everybody I could legitimately dream of beating and then held all but 1 of them, Graham MacNab, off in the long run to the finish. Manny’s time was just over 53mins, I was next Westie in 70 mins with Hamilton a couple of minutes behind then Christine and Gordon not sure in which order, followed by Brenda. Manny won some cracking shoes, Christine was First Ladies V50, Brenda was 3rd Senior lady and I got a spot prize. Great hall to have the food and prize giving in and every ate well. I cannot praise this race highly enough, code finitely one of the best races in the calendar which you really must try……plus next year it’s an SHR championship race
