Instructions for Christmas Cracker 25

3 Dec 2025  from 6.30 pm

This is social event and there will be soup, pizzas and prizes, so bring something to drink and have some fun.

  • You can start at any time between 6.30pm and 7.00pm.
  • You can run by yourself, in pairs, or small groups. Just remember, the larger the group the more opportunity for arguments and conflict, and if you start together you have to finish together.
  • The course is very varied with options to go into the dark, muddy Mugdock, or have a more relaxed run around the lit streets and paths of Milngavie. But you will need a torch.
  • Once you have loaded Maprun7+ on your phone you can download the Christmas Cracker 25 v3 map and course from the QR code you can see.
  • If you have a problem, you can find the course in the Maprun7 app through the menu option ‘Select Event’ in folder UK/Scotland/Glasgow/ Westies.
  • You can download the map at any time, but it is password protected and you will not be able to see it until you get the password on the night. (not that we don’t trust you)
  • The map uses the conventional orienteering symbols, which are :-
    • Start is a Triangle S1
    • Finish is a Double concentric circle F1
    • Checkpoints are Circles with a Number NN

The clock starts automatically when you get to the Start and stops when you get to the Finish, so make sure you do not go to the finish before you really mean to.

  • There will be a bleep, vibration and the checkpoint will change colour to show you have found the checkpoint. There is nothing physical on the ground, but all the checkpoint are in fairly obvious places.
  • A note of caution, sometime the GPS is a bit slow to catch up with you so be prepared to slow down/stop at a checkpoint to allow the app to record the punch.
  • The Checkpoints scores are :-
·         Numbers 41-50   - 50 points ·         Numbers 51-60   - 60 points
·         Numbers 61-70   - 70 points ·         Numbers 71-80   - 80 Points
·         Numbers 81-90   - 90 Points ·         Numbers 91-99   - 100 Points

Go to as many, or as few, checkpoint as you want, or are able, to in the time. The more checkpoints you visit the more points you score, and as we know ‘points mean prizes ‘.

  • The time limit for the course is 90 minutes. For every minute (or part of a minute) over 90 minutes you will be penalised 10 points.
  • The event is based at our house 11 Sandfield Avenue, Milngavie G62 8NR, which is about 10 minutes’ walk from Milngavie station, and easy to find on GoogleMaps.
  • We have changing rooms and showers and after the event we will have soup, pizza and prizes.

I have created a short course ( Elfs' Adventure ) that is suitable for people with very short legs to do under the supervision of a responsible adult so there is fun for all. Contact me for details if you want.
