Loch Ossian – Things that go bump in the night

Westies XXXth rated visit to Loch Ossian got off to a flying Friday start with Captain Charlie demonstrating how to do a whole bottle of single malt in a oner, and wreaking havoc along with a certain Archibald Cameron.

Saturday’s driechy conditions saw a group including Charlie, Liz, Anna, JD, and Steffen on the Munros north of Ben Alder on a 6hr jog, Drew did a round the Loch followed by Leum Uilleim, Tony and Muffy did their fave 18 miler, and other folks covered various hills and routes… A little later in the day Marc got cuffed in a ’round the Loch head to head’, and later still Keith and Ian Struthers emerged from the darkness after fine individual epics.

Saturday evening’s antics were steeped in traditional club hazy alcohol oblivion … Nigel’s marguerites, Blair’s sounds, Dave’s cross-dressing, mucho tequila and San Miguel with all Westies sporting massive Mexican moustaches, Helen and Pat looked particularly fetching. Archie reports that during the wee hours a ghost was in fact responsible for hauling him out of a sleepy top bunk and onto the floor, but this remains unsubstantiated.

Sunday was noteworthy for the Beinn Na Lap group taking 3hrs to complete the hill. It is still not known why this is, some say it was the effects of Saturdays alcohol, others that the hill is so boring they fell asleep part way up. Marc also atoned for Saturday’s dismal round the loch effort by trouncing all-comers and setting a new best of some 45min despite consuming 5 Calder fried eggs, 11 rashers of bacon, and 6 slices of toast beforehand.

However, Sunday’s most noteworthy event was Ian ‘The Couch’ Murray’s gargantuan efforts to take the Jenga Master title, employing his new and radical “vibrator technique” to full and devastating effect. Others used the “Muffy special” and the “Beinn na Lap” move to lose and gain places in the Jenga ratings but couldn’t compare with Lenzie’s best.

All rounded off with a Hokey Cokey at the station afore heading home. Loch Ossian now has 363 days to prepare for the next Westies visit.
