Loch Katrine Cycle

Five Westies enjoyed a lovely Sunday cycle in the Trossachs – hopefully the first of many sociable rides!

JD, Paula, John, Jane and me headed off from Callander, after applying generous quantities of sun cream, on the back roads to Loch Katrine.  For the next 23 miles it was closed roads along the north side of the loch before we stopped coffee (or Crabbies) and cake in Stronachlachar.  Sitting in the glorious sunshine we enjoyed the mountain views over the loch and admired some the of the carbon machines that wheeled in shortly after us.

Once refueled it was on with the quiet road along Loch Ard back to Aberfoyle where we dropped a few gears and headed over Dukes Pass.  Not quite Mount Ventoux, but we put in a similarly committed effort and were rewarded with the fast decents on the otherside.

With Callander looking like a Medatrainian beach resort we put the bikes in the cars and headed down the road to the Deanston Distilary just outside Doune. It is worth a thought if you are in the area looking for some fuel as we enjoyed a delicious home cooked lunch in a large but uncrowded cafe!

We are planning to head out again in a few weeks so come and join us!
