Greenmantle Dash 2013

Results

Five Westies turned up at the Greenmantle Dash to prove to themselves that they had not eaten too much over the holiday. All of the male starters at the race, Owen, James, Don and I, had never done this race before, whereas Pauline, had plenty of experience with the wall/burn crossings.

James Callender was the first Westie back in 7th place, clearly having some local knowledge (his girlfriend stays in Broughton) and managing to go the right way at the start, paid off for him. Owen O’Neill was next back in 17th, followed by Don Reid 30th and myself 32nd.  Pauline McAdam ran home in 58th place picking up 1st V50 lady prize. Hector Haines won the race and Charlotte Morgan set a new ladies’ record with 18.45.

There was a great prize giving/tea afterwards, with pasta, bread rolls, biscuits, tea and free draught Greenmantle ale all available, and with a massive amount of bottle beer to give away, all the juniors received a can of Irn Bru, an Easter egg and a few bottles of beer for their dads.
