Goatfell

1987

Mark Rigby wins complete with W and Helen MacPherson is third lady. A turning point in the life of Westerlands, our first individual victor since Bill Sheridan triumph at Springburn in Jan 1984.

Ian Struthers: ‘not since Westerlands picked up three spot prizes at Ben Lomond has there been such a day for the club’

I did my usual, passing five guys on the tarmac into Brodick, Mr Struthers did score one victory over me, a 3 hole victory at the putting green.

Notable that in the SAAA Hill Racing Championships the 2 runners who didn’t get medals because they hadn’t paid the required fees were a Westie man and a Trotter. A further ploy by Vicky Park against us?

A memorable day for Westerlands with first male runner and third female runner home. Mr redeems himself after running for Ambleside last week.

PS. In all the excitement we forgot to mention some things, firstly congratulations to the Island of Arran for introducing hot water to their showers. Secondly good Westies team performance with a probable points total of 40. Thirdly all Westerlands runners note: the first 3 Westie men home did not wear tee shirts under their vests. The last Westies man home did wear a thermal vest and said he still felt cold at the top? Fourthly where was Donohue?
