Glen Rosa Horseshoe

What a race, a truly tough challenge, made tougher by the mist and rain. But, I’ll say it again, what a race!

I am thoroughly exhausted from the wading through bog, scrambling up granite slabs, insane contouring in knee deep heather, and technical, terrifying descents. It was a really fun and sociable day out with plenty of chat on the train, ferry and bus, and in the rangers station as we hid from the midges. I’ll definitely be a regular at this one.

The race was won by Al Anthony with Eilidh Wardlaw the first woman. The Westies dream team was me, Chris and Don. We all ran pretty well and were close to winning the team prize but were pipped by Carnethy.

My most entertaining moment was finishing with only one shoe – the missing one was sucked off my foot 100m from the finish by a deep, muddy puddle. With Jon Binnie (I think) chasing me down and cramp starting to creep in there wasn’t time to stop and pick it up. I pushed on, finished with only one shoe and grabbed a drink before heading back up the field to recover my Inov-8.

Great day out – thanks to everyone running and organising!
